Oyaide Continental 5s - The Premium USB digital transmission cable named after Five continents
"Continental 5S" is the premium Hi-Fi USB cable created for audio enthusiasts with concentration by our years of experiences.
Silver---5N Pure silver for its conductor
Pure silver is the best material for high-speed transmission due to its excellent electrical conductivity which is far superior to high-purity copper.
For the core of "Continental 5S", 5N jewelry grade pure silver, which is far better than industrial grade, is used. After being melted in a ceramic crucible, it is molded into 15mm diameter round bars. It is further reduced in diameter by means of 19 repetitions of the cold rolling process. Afterwards, the silver wire is further reduced to 1.05mm by a low-speed drawing process.
After the final rolling operation and mirror surface finishing, stress and strain that is generated by the drawing process is slowly removed by a lengthy annealing operation in a high-frequency electric furnace filled with inactive gas to prevent the silver from combining with oxygen. The completed ultra-pure silver wires are immediately packaged in nitrogen gas and are safely stored until the next process.
When we conceived of the Continental 5S, our goal was unlimited transparency. To achieve ultra silent background, its sheilding design was deeply considered to be adopted to all king of noise generated from complicated system enviroments.
The answer is "Signal-Power separation shielding". The most of existed USB cables, for their signal and power lines, has just twist pair structure which causes jitter-loss frequently due to the fact that noise from power line internaly jump onto signal line.
"Continental 5S" has not only twist pair structure for its signal and power lines but also completely separated each line by copper foil sheilding which has 100% of shilding ratio. In addition on its outer periphery, it has "alminum foil shielding layer" and "silver plated copper braided shilding layer" which are strongly effective for external high frequency noise.
The connection part between cable and connector is where changing magnetic fields and noise interfusions. After soldering cable and plug, it is covered by metal shell before molding process. In addition, outer shell made of brass is installed on the plug to protect the contact part from external noise.
This multi-layered shilding might sound overmuch, but we applied it because we know taht it is very effective to attenuate jitter loss and was developed for achiving our goal, unlimited transparency.
The material of the contact which is the core factor for signal transmission is made of RoHS compliant high quality copper allly. And for better conductivity and durability, we applied double-layered plating which has been applied to many products of Oyaide and proven its effectivity along with our long time experience. The inner layer is silver plating which has the highest conductivity among all metals. The outer layer is rhodium plating which has excellent rigidity and durability.
The control of the cable impedance was done by maximallyl considered design and strick pitch adjustment. For stable signal transmission, the distance, thickness, and strand have to be structured reasonablly.
"Continental 5S"has clean electric signal wave by this impedance control and makes excellent transmitt stability preventing noise generation. Although the conductor diameter of regular cables is usually AWG28, the conductor diameter of "Continental 5S"is thicker AWG25 which helps to lower conductor resistance and prevent jitter loss.
Although a conductor is the most important factor when a signal transmit through a cable, an insulator is also very significant to prevent loss of signal transmission.
We applied fluorine contained resin (PFA) for its insulation material for its ultra-low permittivity.
However, PFA is a material that is easily charged by static electricity. When signal transmit in a cable, it generate very tiny vibrations and the material charged by static discharges by it. To solve this problem, we installed "silk fillament"which prevents rise of electric permittivity by filling layer and enhances its flexibility
